New York State Police troopers were dispatched to a Lexington Avenue home in Cortlandt shortly after midnight on Monday, Oct. 15, where there was a report of a domestic dispute that potentially turned physical.
Police said that the investigation into the incident determined that 18-year-old Cortlandt resident Anton Birnel engaged in a physical altercation with his victim, who had an Order of Protection that had been issued by the City of Peekskill Court.
During the dispute, Birnel allegedly punched holes in the walls of the residence and disabled the phone to prevent his victim from contacting the police.
Birnel was arrested and charged with criminal contempt and two counts of criminal mischief.
Following his arraignment in the Town of Cortlandt Court, he was remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 22 to answer the charges.
